Intentions... They're one of the best friends to have... as long as they don't stick around. If we're not careful we can begin to feel quite well about our intentions. I'm thinking right now of James 1:22 again. "Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." We are also taught not to be ignorant of the schemes (methodia) methods of the devil. He's a professional schemer and he knows how to make you feel good about feeling good about something rather than doing something about it. Intentions... good friends that gotta go.

Are you taking that family vacation that you promised the kids you'd take? Did you give your daughter that promised horseback ride? I remember when the first sequel to Star Wars Episode 1 came out. I was proud of my sons and how they were doing in school and so I told them I was going to take them to the very first theatre showing. That's right. We skipped school. Yikes! What a memory though. Now what if I told them of that intention and they got all jazzed up about it and we didn't go? Lame Dad Award!

But we made a memory. They still bring it up sometimes. And the best part was... as we were walking out of the theatre filled with all that excitement and joy, almost ready to explode, I asked if they wanted to see it again? What??? They didn't know it but I had already bought the tickets to watch it back to back! What a blast! That was an intention that left because it became a reality.

Got any intentions that need to leave because they got on someday aisle? Perhaps that intention to memorize those ten verses? Maybe it's that intention to sign up to work in the nursery once a month at church. Maybe you don't even go to church but somehow you're reading this right now and you know you've been 'intending' to go for years. "Someday aisle go to church..." That's quite a friendship ya got going on there. Maybe you're a parent who has been intending to have that special talk with your son or daughter that you know is necessary and you're just feeling good about the idea that you know it needs to be done, but you're not doing it. Hello? Nuff said.

Let's find a few specifics. You have one week to get rid of a friend or two. (I hope you know I mean 'intentions' and not real friends).
