Anything you want...

Here's a specific to teach your children regarding money and saving. Now there are other principles regarding money that need to be taught as well. The danger of loving money is one. The joy of giving back to the Lord is one. The necessity to work for money. The value of shopping wisely for the best value for your money.

This specific is just the basic principle of confronting greed and learning to do without some things. Teach them early on in life that we don't just get to have everything we want. And we must learn to save for those things we really do want. By the way this is not just for children alone, is it? Money isn't the root of all evil. The love of money is. You can be flat broke and still be guilty of the love of money (which may also be why you're flat broke).

So teach your chidlren early on the value of creating a spending diet. Give them some clear specifics to help them understand. If they really want that pair of Jordans, they're gonna have to pass up on the Xbox game and that shirt and so on for several weeks to get there. And by the way, just because we want something, doesn't mean we should get it either. Let's think that through as well. "My God shall supply all your needs (not greeds) according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 4:19)
